Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg pleaded with residents Tuesday to take social distancing measures amid a rise in coronavirus cases.
“I cannot say clearly enough – for God’s sake stop gathering,” Steinberg said in a statement. “We have it in our power to reverse this trend.”
Sacramento is one of eleven counties that have slid back into more restrictive tiers. Sacramento County is one of three going back to the most restrictive, purple tier.
On Friday, new restrictions will kick in, including the closure of indoor dining. School reopening plans will also be put on hold.
Experts say the United States is entering the most dangerous phase of the pandemic yet. New daily cases climbed to an all-time high of 140,543 on Wednesday.
