Long Beach Deputy City Manager Arturo Sanchez has tendered his resignation, effective Jan. 6. Sanchez, who boasts more than 15 years in public safety policy, has accepted a position providing support to the police and fire departments in Sacramento.
Among other duties, Sanchez will help the city choose a replacement for retiring Police Chief Sam Somers. In his current role, Sanchez reviews police commission findings and makes recommendations to the City Manager on policies related to public safety and officer use of force.
Sanchez began his career in public service as an attorney with Oakland’s Neighborhood Law Corps. He later became Interim Assistant City Administrator, helping to oversee the city’s Police Department and Police Review Board. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from University of California, Berkeley, and a Juris Doctor from New College of California, School of Law.
“I want to thank City Manager Patrick H. West, the Mayor, and the City Council for having afforded me the privilege and honor of serving them and the residents of Long Beach,” Sanchez said in a statement. "While my tenure has been short it has been filled with enumerable memories and lessons that will influence and guide me in my professional career.”
