Four California cities have made a new list of the Safest Cities in America in 2024.
The rankings were put out by WalletHub. The website compared 182 cities — including the 150 most populous, plus at least two of the most populous cities in each state — across three key dimensions: 1) Home & Community Safety 2) Natural-Disaster Risk and 3) Financial Safety.
According to the researchers, the five safest cities in California are:
Irvine (#11 nationally)
Chula Vista (#23 nationally)
Fremont (#24 nationally)
Glendale (#25 nationally)
Santa Rosa (#27 nationally)
Oakland and San Bernardino were ranked as the most dangerous cities in California.
Here are a few other highlights from the study:
Santa Clarita has the fewest traffic fatalities among the California cities that were studied, followed by Oxnard
California has four out of the five cities in America with the fewest law enforcement employees per capita: Modesto, Montana, Fremont and Irvine
Irvine has one of the lowest rates of assaults per capita, and the lowest in California
Oakland has the highest assault rate among California cities
