The San Clemente City Council has appointed a new mayor, Voice of OC reports. City Councilman Dan Bane was selected by a 3-0 vote. Councilman Chris Hamm was absent.

The city’s former mayor Steve Swartz passed away seven months ago and Bane has been fulfilling his duties since. Councilwoman Laura Ferguson will fill Bane’s spot as mayor pro-tem, according to Voice of OC.

From the San Clemente City website:

Dan has resided in San Clemente for over 10 years with his wife, Sheyanne. Since moving to San Clemente in 2008, Dan has served as a member of the General Plan Advisory Committee, the San Clemente Planning Commission, and as the San Clemente representative for the Orange County Transportation Authority's Citizen Advisory Committee. Dan also graduated from the City of San Clemente Leadership Academy.

Dan holds a Juris Doctor degree from Pepperdine University and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri. Dan is currently a partner at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP where he is a trial attorney representing clients in real estate and business disputes.

Dan is passionate about tackling the tough issues facing the residents of San Clemente and is proud to serve as Mayor Pro Tem in 2019. Dan also represents the City Council on the Downtown Business Association, Pier Bowl Association, SCAG General Assembly, and the San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor Agency.

Dan's goal as your council member is to be an approachable and attentive steward of our collective vision for the future and to work to ensure that every resident's voice is heard.
