A state appeals court recently upheld a ruling leaving the city on the hook for over $10 million in parking fine refunds.
Next stop? State Supreme Court.
The vote was made in the City Council’s closed session last week.
A lawsuit at the core of this issue accused the city of improperly tracking funds intended to be spent on beach parking. As a result the funds should be returned to the public that paid into the fund. Refunds would date back two whole decades.
The City of San Clemente wants to be able to submit a 2009 report as sufficient evidence to avoid the dissolution of the fund.
