San Diego renters hit by financial difficulties due to COVID-19 will likely have until Dec. 30 to meet their obligations. The City Council voted to extend the repayment period for San Diego’s eviction moratorium last Tuesday. The vote was 5-4. It must pass a final vote.
Council President Georgette Gomez wanted to extend the period all the way through March 2021.
San Diego’s emergency eviction moratorium was approved on March 25 in response to the initial shutdown. The moratorium expires Sept. 30. To qualify, commercial or residential tenants must document proof of substantial income loss as a result of the pandemic.
