June 19 was declared Rey Mysterio Day in San Diego, California.
The world-famous WWE star (real name: Óscar Gutiérrez) appeared at City Hall with his family Tuesday to accept a proclamation from the city acknowledging his work on behalf of the San Diego community.
"The fans have catapulted me to this level that I'm at and if I have two years or three years left, I want to keep entertaining for that amount of time that I have left and giving the best to my fans like I always have," the beloved luchador said.
Mysterio may be best known for his intimidating wrestling moves, but he has also been a tireless advocate for the community. The three-time world wrestling champion is currently working with a nonprofit to address homelessness in the Barrio Logan neighborhood. He visited a local elementary school last month to encourage student involvement in efforts to end the homelessness crisis.
