San Diego Assistant Police Chief Scott Wahl has been chosen to lead the department after a nationwide search and several community meetings. Wahl will replace retiring San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit, who steps down in June.
"Assistant Chief Wahl’s unwavering and unyielding commitment to safety and wellbeing of the people of San Diego has been demonstrated over his 25 years with the department and I know that he will continue that work as our chief of police,” said Mayor Gloria.
Wahl was born and raised in San Diego and has worked for SDPD for 25 years. His past roles include officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain.
“I am here because I want to make a difference in our community,” said the incoming chief. “I am here because I want to make a difference in the lives of the men and women who come to work each and every day to protect and serve all of you. I have a vested interest in the success of this city and the success of this police department."
