If you thought California’s June Primary was jam-packed, wait until you get a load of San Diego’s November ballot.
In addition to the 17 statewide measures facing us all, San Diego voters will be asked to weigh in on another 14 proposals—two at the county level and another 12 citywide. And all that comes in addition to some pretty important candidate races, like Council District 9.
The two countywide initiatives include a half-cent sales tax on transportation and infrastructure projects (Measure A) and a new home development project near Valley Center (Measure B).
Citywide, we have the Chargers’ Stadium Plan (Measure C), which CityNews has covered extensively here. Then we have proposals to raise the hotel tax (D); make it easier to remove public officials from office (E); reduce the probationary period for deputy city attorneys to a single year (F); tweak the Citizens’ Review Board (G); make changes to the city’s purchasing and contracting process (H); extend San Diego High School’s lease at the edge of Balboa Park (I); direct more funds toward regional parks (J); require automatic runoffs for city council members, the mayor, and the city attorney (K); require citizen initiative and referendum measures to appear on November ballots specifically (L); raise the cap on affordable housing units (M); and impose a sales tax on recreational marijuana ahead of possible passage of Proposition 64 (N).
San Diego, you’ve got homework to do.
