San Dimas had a chance to become the first city in Los Angeles County to voice its formal opposition to California’s sanctuary law, SB 54, this week. During the late hours of Wednesday night, the city council rejected that proposition. A measure proposed by Councilman Ryan Vienna failed in a 2-3 vote.
Anti-immigration activists were outraged. “Shame on you!” and “cowards!” they shouted.
Elsewhere, it was another week of falling dominos in California’s sanctuary civil war. Simi Valley became the first city in Ventura County to join the fight against California’s sanctuary laws on Monday. By a unanimous vote, Simi council members voted to file an amicus brief in support of the federal government’s lawsuit.
Other newcomers to the battle, siding with the Trump administration, include Upland and Yucaipa.
