A panel devoted to homelessness and mental health issues in San Francisco has been terminated after less than a year. Supervisors voted Tuesday to disband the Homelessness and Behavioral Health Committee, citing logistical issues.
“Scheduling for the committee was a nightmare,” Supervisor Hillary Ronen explained.
Leaders voted to create the panel in February. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, since its first meeting in April, one-third of the committee’s meetings had been canceled.
Ronen said that Tuesday’s decision “is absolutely no indication” that homelessness and mental health are being deprioritized by leaders. “The only thing that will be impacted is the committee where these items are heard.”
A separate body, known as the Homeless Oversight Committee, remains intact.
