The cities of San Jose and San Diego are both ranked in the top 5 urban hubs considered to be ‘most future-ready’ in the United States, according to real estate website Point 2. San Jose is ranked in 2nd place. San Diego is ranked 4th.

The ranking used specific criteria to gauge which cities are better at innovating solutions for sustainability and growth into the future. The criteria include ‘30 key metrics’ that simplify into 5 main categories. Those being: Business & Technology; Internet Connectivity; Environment & Sustainability; Transit & Mobility; and Economy & Demographics.

San Jose ranks highly under these metrics because of its robust technology sector and its relation and proximity to Silicon Valley. The city is on the forefront of many developing industries and thus is determined to be well positioned for future growth.

San Diego also ranks well under the Business & Technology category. This is due to its existing and growing status as a tech job hub. It also ranks high in the Environment & Sustainability category because of its broad green initiatives.

California is a center of innovation, having five cities in the top 10 of Point 2’s rankings. This is more than any other state, with San Francisco, Sacramento, and Oakland ranking 6th, 8th, and 9th respectively.
