The OC Register reports that a candidate for Santa Ana's Ward 3 has used campaign money on an apartment lease.
[Santa Ana] City Council Ward 3 candidate Jose Solorio announced Monday he filed to personally reimburse his campaign office for money he used to pay for an apartment he leased so that he could run in Ward 3.
Solorio, a former Santa Ana councilman and state assemblyman, admitted his campaign decided to “share office space” in the Ward 3 apartment he leased starting in July with the understanding that the arrangement was permitted by law.
Using campaign funds to pay your rent is typically prohibited. Jay Wierenga, spokesman for the state Fair Political Practices Commission, confirmed that Solorio’s opponent David De Leon has already filed a complaint.
In addition to the reimbursement, Solorio says he has put an end to the home office arrangement.
