Three Santa Ana police officers have found themselves on the wrong side of the law after they were caught stealing food from a marijuana dispensary that they were raiding last year.
Jorge Arroyo, 32, Brand Matthew Sontag, 31, and Nicole Lynn Quijas, 37, were charged with petty theft and vandalism Monday for allegedly stealing candy and protein bars from Sky High Holistic in May of last year. The pot shop was being raided by the officers for allegedly operating without a license at the time. The vandalism charge stems from allegations that one of them smashed video surveillance equipment in an effort to cover their tracks.
There is no evidence that the three officers actually consumed marijuana-laced edibles, according to authorities. Instead, they are accused of stealing regular food from the facility’s break room. Footage of the incidence also appears to show the hangry threesome joking about kicking an amputee in a wheelchair.
The incident was caught on tape by a second set of cameras that the cops were not aware of. They could now face 6 to 18 months in jail on top of thousands of dollars in fines.
