The first bike sharing program in Los Angeles County has finally come to a beach town near you.
In conjunction with Cyclehop, LLC, the City of Santa Monica launched the Breeze Bike Share program on a pilot basis last week. With the pilot effort in full-swing, 31 bikes will be made available for check-out at 7 hubs along or near major bike routes in the city until September 13.
For now, there is a catch. Over the next few weeks, these bikes will only be available to Breeze Bike Share Founding Members. However, non-members interested in a test run still have a chance to apply for a founding membership by visiting the Breeze Bike Share website. Once the pilot phase has ended (some time in November), the number of available bikes and hubs will climb to 500 and 75 respectively. The program will also be open to the general public at that time.
