This Wednesday was “Random Acts of Kindness Day” in Saratoga, California and that makes us feel all warm and gushy inside. To celebrate, the city council encouraged residents to go out and do something nice for their fellow man. For example, visiting a friend in the hospital, buying a stranger a coffee, or just giving someone a hug.
The day was proclaimed by the council earlier this month at the request of local resident and former Saratoga News reporter Louise Web. We think she just might be the nicest lady in the world. In fact, this isn’t even the first time she’s had a Random Acts of Kindness Day declared.
Twenty-one years ago, Webb wrote an article about acts of kindness for the local paper. Shortly thereafter, she was able to convince the council to declare February 17, 1995 Random Acts of Kindness Day as well.
"We know that [acts of kindness] happen on a regular basis in our city, but we don't take the time sometimes to recognize them, to acknowledge them and to thank people for these," said Mayor Manny Cappello.
