Scott Wiener’s transit housing bill met with defeat once more on Wednesday. This is the third time Wiener’s bid to increase housing density around transit areas has fallen short.
Much of the opposition arose from L.A.-area Democrats concerned that the bill does not do enough to promote affordable housing and prevent gentrification. Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) also opposed the bill, while Republican Senator Moorlach was in favor.
You can see how the votes went down in this tweet thread from the L.A. Times’ Liam Dillon. The tally was 18-15 in favor, but it needed 21 yeas to pass.
“We’re going to do everything in our power to pass SB 50 tomorrow,” Wiener said.
