Irvine Assistant City Manager Sean Crumby will begin serving as Interim City Manager on July 7 following a unanimous vote by the city council. Irvine’s current chief executive, Oliver Chi, was recently appointed City Manager of Santa Monica.
Crumby has served as Irvine’s Assistant City Manager since December of 2024. He was previously Director of Public Works for the City of Huntington Beach and Assistant City Manager and Public Works Director for the City of Seal Beach. According to the city, he is a registered civil engineer with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Nevada.
“Since joining the City of Irvine in 2023, Crumby has played a pivotal role in shaping the City’s infrastructure and sustainability efforts,” Irvine said in a press release. “He was initially appointed as the City’s first Director of Project Delivery & Sustainability, where he oversaw Irvine’s expansive Capital Improvement Program — managing approximately $100 million in projects annually — as well as environmental programs and the implementation of Active Transportation Program initiatives.”
Crumby’s contract is expected to be signed on June 24.
