Embattled Sacramento City Councilmember Sean Loloee resigned from office last Thursday, three weeks after he was indicted by a federal grand jury on fraud charges.
Loloee isn’t going out quietly. He released a seven-minute video blasting Mayor Darrell Steinberg for creating a “politically motivated circus.”
Trouble has followed Loloee from the outset. He was already facing questions about his residency when his private business dealings became a matter of legal scrutiny. Mayor Steinberg recently called for his resignation.
The councilman only has a year left on his term. He had already announced he would not seek re-election. Nine candidates are running for the seat.
The council will now fill the vacancy by appointment. Mayor Steinberg has said the council should wait until after the primary election to do so.
