It’s been three months since Palm Desert City Manager John Wohlmuth retired, and the search for his replacement has now whittled down to eight candidates. The City Council had received 50 applications for the position with the help of Ralph Anderson & Associates. They began reviewing them together during a closed session Thursday, but have not disclosed any of the names.
“The selection of our next city manager is an important decision for Palm Desert. We have big, exciting things going on, including the update of our General Plan,” said Mayor Bob Spiegel. “The selection process must be rigorous and thorough to ensure that we hire the best candidate for this critical job.”
Palm Desert’s last top administrator left in April amid allegations of sexual harassment. Among other things, he was accused of circulating a nude photo of a city employee in his pool. Justin McCarthy, former assistant city manager for redevelopment, stepped out of retirement to fill the role on an interim basis.
