A new library and community services director will take the helm in Sierra Madre next week. The city has selected Irwindale city librarian Ryan Baker for the post, effective June 14.
"I welcome Ryan to the City of Sierra Madre," said City Manager Elaine Aguilar. "His energy and enthusiasm along with his success in grant writing and program planning are a great foundation to spearhead the Library and Community Services Department."
Baker has honed his craft for 13 years, having previously worked for the cities of Long Beach and Al Hambra. He holds a Masters in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University and a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts. He also currently chairs the administrative council for the Southern California Library Cooperative and previously served on the bylaws, finance, and content evaluation committees for the California Library Association and the American Library Association.
