A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck near the town of Julian in San Diego County on Monday, with shaking felt as far north as Los Angeles. The 10:08 am quake was described as “violent” by some residents who called into KNX Radio. It was initially reported to be a 6.0 but was later downgraded.
According to seismologist Lucy Jones, the quake most likely occurred along the Elsinore Fault, which is connected to the San Andreas Fault system. A 3.3 earthquake in the same area on Sunday is now confirmed to have been a foreshock.
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said that he is unaware of any major damage. He asked residents and businesses to report major damage through the Get It Done web portal.
