GrassrootsLab’s Robb Korinke has a helpful breakdown of local election results on Twitter. Be sure to check out the thread here. In the meantime, we’re focusing on some important city races in particular.

Tuesday was a first for Costa Mesa voters, as they participated in their new district-based election system. The shift looks to have paid off for Democrats. Costa Mesa flipped to Democratic control — a major development. Katrina Foley became the city’s first directly elected mayor.

Disney was a huge factor in Anaheim’s elections and, so far, it looks like the House of Mouse will have a friendly majority on the City Council. Former city councilman Harry Sidhu was also elected mayor.

Carson voters opted to become a charter city on Tuesday. They also chose to return controversial former mayor and city clerk Jim Dear to the city council. This did not go over well with Mayor Al Robles and City Manager Ken Farfsing, who promptly resigned!

Scandal-plagued Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts was elected to a third term. But another L.A. County mayor accused of corruption, Palmdale’s Jim Ledford, looks like could be on his way out the door.

For the first time ever, San Diego voters appear to have booted two incumbents on the city council in a single election night: Lori Zapf and Myrtle Cole. The last time any incumbent lost a race there was 1992.

John Valdivia appears to have ousted San Bernardino Mayor R. Carey Davis, according to the latest tally.

Oakland voters are giving Mayor Libby Schaaf another chance. And they're saying goodbye to the ever controversial Councilwoman Desley Brooks. We're going to miss the stories.

National City voters rejected a major rent control measure and elected their first new mayor in over a decade.

Finally, some big news out of Chico. The city council has flipped from a 4-3 Republican majority to a possible 5-2 Democratic majority.
