Sonoma City Manager David Guhin is leaving City Hall for a broader stage. The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors appointed Guhin as County Executive on February 11.
“David Guhin is a proven leader with deep roots in Sonoma County and a clear understanding of the complex challenges facing our communities,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Rebecca Hermosillo. “The Board is confident that his collaborative leadership style, integrity, and commitment to public service will serve our county well as we look to tackle future challenges.”
Sonoma Mayor Ron Wellander issued the following statement:
While we are saddened to see David Guhin leave the City of Sonoma, we are grateful for his significant contribution to our town. The selection of David by the County Board of Supervisors as the County Executive is a testimony of the skills and talents he invested her [sic] locally. In just three years, David has made a lasting and meaningful impact on our community as our City Manager. We know the County will benefit greatly from his leadership, integrity, and collaborative approach.
David leaves the City of Sonoma in a strong and stable position. Under his leadership, the City has progressed in financial stewardship, operational efficiency, transparency, and long-term planning. We have a balanced budget, a capable and committed staff team, and a healthy culture of collaboration that will serve the City well into the future.
While we will miss David’s steady hand and thoughtful leadership, we will benefit as he takes a deep understanding of the City of Sonoma and Sonoma Valley to the County Administration. Having a contact, resource and perspective of the County Executive will be invaluable. We look forward to working with him from the County level.
Sonoma is a special place. I am confident that we will attract a strong pool of candidates resulting in the selection of an equally strong professional who will build upon the solid foundation David has helped create. On behalf of the City Council and the entire Sonoma Community, I want to thank David for his three years of dedicated service and wish him success in his next chapter.
Before joining the City of Sonoma, Guhin held multiple positions in Santa Rosa, including Director of Santa Rosa Water, Director of Planning and Economic Development, and Assistant City Manager. He also previously served as Executive Director of Government Operations for the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria.
Guhin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Development from Sonoma State University. He will assume his new position on April 20 at an annual base salary of $377,226.
