A special election for the seat formerly held by LA City Councilmember Nury Martinez will be held on April 4, following a 10-0 vote by the Los Angeles City Council Wednesday. If the election heads to a runoff, round two will take place on June 27.
The estimated price tag for the special election is $7.65 million.
Martinez resigned in disgrace last month following a leaked conversation in which she made vile and racist remarks about Blacks, certain Latinos, and other groups, while also chiding Councilman Mike Bonin’s African American son.
District 6 is currently being represented by the city's chief legislative analyst, Sharon Tso. She’s a non-voting caretaker, which means she responds to constituents’ needs but does not vote on policy.
Candidates interested in running for the seat have until Dec. 12 to file.
