Lindsay City Councilmember Hipolito Cerros was removed from the mayor’s position this month, ending his stint as California’s youngest mayor and the youngest in Lindsay’s history.
The 24-year-old was appointed mayor in 2022 by a majority of council members. He was first elected to the council in 2020, while he was still attending college at UC Davis.
Sun Gazette and Mid Valley Times editor Danielle Gutierrez told KVPR that some members of the council determined Cerros was “a little inexperienced” in the mayor’s role. Sources told Gutierrez that he had overstepped his boundaries at times, causing concern among council members and staff.
Part of youth is living and learning, and Cerros appears to be taking the criticism in stride. Gutierrez reports he was “receptive” to his colleagues’ words. And while he may no longer be mayor, he fully intends to continue carrying out his duties as a council member.
