An anti-LGBTQ group showed up on the streets of Modesto Saturday, weeks after they were rejected a permit for a Straight Pride rally.
The demonstration drew a few dozen people, the Modesto Bee reports. They were clearly outnumbered by counter-protesters, who showed up in the hundreds.
About two dozen officers were on hand to keep the peace between both sides.
“We would like to thank them for remaining peaceful and expressing themselves in a respectful manner while embracing our community’s diversity,” the Modesto Police Department posted on its Facebook page. “No major incidents were reported after a day of protests.”
