Despite some controversial social justice and police accountability reforms, a new study has ranked California as the best state to be a law enforcement officer.
WalletHub’s report took 30 different factors of ‘police friendliness' into account for the study. These include:
- The number of law enforcement officers per capita and growth projections by 2028
- Average starting salary, median income, and growth potential
- Training and education requirements
- Police misconduct confidentiality laws
- Presence of “Blue Alerts”
- Degree of lethal force permitted
- Red flag laws
- Police deaths and assaults per capita
- Persons killed by police
- Pursuit-related fatalities
- Crime rates and share of solved homicides
- State and local police protection expenses per capita
Connecticut was ranked second in terms of law enforcement friendliness, followed by Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Ohio.
