Summit of the Americas: LA Streets to Avoid

The ninth Summit of the Americas is bringing even worse traffic to Los Angeles. This is the second time the U.S. has hosted the summit since 1994. The event runs through June 10.

There’s a right way and a wrong way to host a gathering of global leaders. Many residents are furious with the lack of advanced notice about the closures, some of which took place during an election. Downtown, there was very little signage about the event. Many people learned through word-of-mouth.

“The Summit of the Americas has caused massive transit disruptions, removed multiple bike share stations, blocked scooter use, and closed streets throughout DTLA for an entire week with little notice DURING A MAJOR ELECTION,” tweeted Alissa Walker of Curbed, who hosts the LA Podcast.

Bob Hope Patriotic Hall will be closed Jun 7-10.

Below are lists of road closures and bus detours to be aware of, courtesy of LA Metro:

STREET CLOSURES

These closures are in effect from 10 p.m. Monday, June 6, through 12 p.m. Saturday, June  11:

•The connector ramps from the east and westbound 10 Freeway to the 110 Freeway North.

•The 110 Freeway northbound exits into Downtown LA, to include Pico Blvd., 9th St, 6th St, 4th, and 3rd St.

•The 110 Freeway southbound exits for 6th St and Wilshire Blvd.

•Figueroa Blvd, north and southbound traffic, between Washington Blvd and 3rd St.

•Pico Blvd, east and westbound traffic, between Union Ave and Grand Ave.

•7th St, east and westbound traffic, between Bixel St. and Flower St.

•Wilshire Blvd., east and westbound traffic, between Bixel St. and Flower St.

There are several other streets in downtown Los Angeles that will be intermittently closed to traffic because of the Summit.
