In case you didn't know, Palos Verdes Estates is home not just to beautiful equestrian trails, but also the notorious surfer "gang" the "Bay Boys," who have for decades guarded their 'turf' of Lunada Bay. A LAT story last July sets the table pretty well with this headline "'Gang mentality' of middle-age surfers keeps outsiders off Palos Verdes Estates waves." Pelting interlopers with rocks and vandalizing vehicles is their chief MO, but the bottom line is these are their waves. Bro.
>Well, perhaps not for long. A lawsuit filed in federal court names the city and several Bay Boys and seeks to use a gang injunction to clear the beach. The Daily Breeze reports "The suit seeks to ban the Bay Boys from Lunada Bay through a gang injunction, fine them up to $30,000 each and order the Police Department to prosecute harassment and vandalism to which it has been long-accused of turning a blind eye."
Not cool. And CityNews counts as friends several city officials in PV Estates, so we don't mean to glib... but this is now gaining international press for its Point Break-esque storyline and amusing details, such as:
"Also at issue is a stone fort the Bay Boys built without permits at the waters edge."
And without permits! Which is, to be fair, pretty badass.
If you wanna see how these guys operate, there's video. And you'll be pleased to know the Bay Boys aren't going out without a fight. From the Daily Breeze "Frank Ferrara, 59, said he is a nonviolent “peacemaker” whose respected family name has been dragged through the mud by slanderers taking advantage of media hype."
Dude.
