Santa Clara will rename itself “Swiftie Clara” and designate musician Taylor Swift an honorary mayor while she’s in town for her Eras Tour on July 28 and 29.

The City Council approved the proclamation Tuesday, ahead of her appearances at Levi’s Stadium.

”The City is honoring Taylor Swift and ‘The Eras Tour,’ like many cities have done across the country, to celebrate the cultural impact of this exceptional artist and to highlight the City of Santa Clara and Levi’s® Stadium as a world class destination for national and international talent,” said Mayor Lisa M. Gillmor.

“The Eras Tour has captivated fans nationwide, transcending genres and making an indelible mark. Santa Clara proudly becomes ‘Swiftie Clara’ with Taylor as Honorary Mayor, embracing innovative and influential cultural icons that reflect our city’s vibrant spirit and forging connections that make us an unforgettable destination,” added Christine Lawson, CEO of Discover Santa Clara.

San Francisco is also honoring Swift with an official declaration. July 28 and 29 will be deemed “Taylor Swift Weekend” in San Francisco, following a vote by the Board of Supervisors.

San Francisco Supervisor Matt Dorsey clearly had fun crafting his announcement, which was loaded with references to Swift’s songs.

“I must ‘Speak Now’ on this resolution declaring July 28 and 29 Taylor Swift Weekend in the city and County of San Francisco,” he said. “As you may know ‘All Too Well,’ Taylor Swift is a music industry icon and an advocate for change. A once-in-a-generation talent who has captivated people like a fireworks show, she is setting records to the moon and to Saturn.”

Swift’s music has enchanted audiences of all ages, races and creeds. Her Eras tour is expected to generate $4.6 billion in U.S. consumer spending and has already boosted local economies across the country.

“The economic impact Swift creates is staggering, as fans travel from far and wide to attend her concerts, filling hotels, restaurants, and local attractions,” said Julie Calvert, president/CEO of tourism agency Visit Cincinnati. “Swift’s influence on tourism is a testament to her ability to captivate audiences and drive economic growth.”
