The dream of homeownership is becoming increasingly elusive for California’s young people. But depending on where they live, some first-time buyers are faring worse than others — much, much worse.
Bankrate.com recently ranked the worst U.S. cities for first-time home buyers and, unsurprisingly, California dominates the list. San Francisco is the very worst, followed by Los Angeles, Sacramento, and San Jose. Seattle came in at No. 5 and then it was right back to the Golden State: Riverside-San Bernardino at No. 6 and San Diego at No. 7, with Las Vegas, Miami, and Memphis rounding out the top 10.
Bankrate.com compared the nation’s 50 largest metros for this study. It looked at home prices, median income, the number of days houses sat on the market, and more.
