Thousand Oaks City Manager Scott Mitnick was terminated Thursday night following a 6-hour closed meeting with the city council. The decision was unanimous, effective immediately. Assistant City Manager Andrew Powers has since taken over as acting city manager.
Mitnick had recently been chastised for a number of actions he took related to his son’s high school baseball team. It was discovered that he used his city email account to secure donations for the team from local businesses that have dealings with the city. He then helped deny a $20,000 grant to the school’s booster club after expressing displeasure with the club and the coaching staff.
The council first discussed whether or not to let Mitnick go back on May 16. They decided not to. It’s not clear what changed since that meeting.
Mitnick had served as city manager since 2005 and was the highest paid city manager in Ventura County. In 2015, his total compensation package was $387,457.
