The City of Thousand Oaks has a permanent chief executive once again. On Jan. 10, Interim City Manager Andrew Powers was officially given the permanent position, six months after replacing fired city manager Scott Mitnick.
“Drew has displayed the highest level of integrity, strong leadership, judgment, and commitment to the city of Thousand Oaks,” Mayor Claudia Bill-de la Peña said in a statement. “He is the most qualified and best suited person to lead the organization and work towards the betterment of our entire community.”
Powers came to Thousand Oaks from Raleigh, N.C. where he had previously served as city manager. He started off in Thousand Oaks as a public information officer. He later became Mitnick’s assistant city manager before taking over the interim position following Mitnick's termination in July. He holds a bachelor’s degree in tourism management from North Carolina State University and a master’s degree in public policy administration from California Lutheran University, where he also teaches.
