We all know traffic is bad in Los Angeles. But do you know just how much time is being sucked out of your life by gridlock each year? If you live or work in L.A., the answer is 88 hours — or more than 3 1/2 full days. That’s the amount of time people spend annually sitting in traffic.
These findings come from a study commissioned by online gambling site, Hello Millions. The report was also summarized by the Sacramento Bee. Hello Millions hired mobility analytics firm INRIX to compile the data using in-vehicle GPS applications.
According to the report, Los Angeles has the third-worst traffic in the United States, behind only New York City (#1) and Chicago (#2).
Among California cities, San Francisco has the second-worst congestion, ranking #15 nationally. Santa Cruz and San Rafael follow, tied at #30 nationally.
No matter where you live, traffic may be eating up more of your time than you think. The average American spends about 43 hours per year stuck in traffic, according to the same report.
