Turlock Police Chief Robert Jackson stepped down Aug. 11, two days after his department announced a set of bold new initiatives aimed at combating rising crime in the city. The chief wished to take a break and spend more time with his family while searching for other career opportunities, a city press release said.
Capt. Nino Amirfar is taking over as Acting Chief while an executive search firm combs the field for a permanent replacement. That recruitment effort is expected to take four months.
Jackson assumed the police chief position in 2012 after a four-year stint as a Turlock police captain. He had previously worked for the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department for nearly two decades and also served as Waterford’s police chief from 2005 to 2007.
