Two Los Angeles City employees have died after testing positive for COVID-19, Mayor Eric Garcetti announced last week. It is unclear who the employees were or how they contracted the virus.
“I love sharing the news of the progress we’re making, but it saddens me deeply that we have lost from our own city family,” said the mayor, who recently warned of a coming surge in deaths.
“It will be our friends. It will be our family. It will be people who we love dearly,” he had cautioned.
As of Tuesday, there were 4,205 confirmed cases in the city. Countywide, there have been 9,420 cases and 320 deaths.
