In just eight years, America will be a non-white majority country. This coming shift will have significant implications for the U.S. electorate and the future of American democracy. The rapid growth of America’s Latino population will cause a political and cultural transformation. What will that transformation look like? Which political party will benefit? And what will it mean for American pluralism?

The answers to all these questions and more are laid out in The Latino Century: How America’s Largest Minority is Transforming Democracy, published by Simon & Schuster and authored by longtime political consultant and GrassrootsLab partner Mike Madrid (pre-oder your copy here). Some of these questions were also answered in a recent sit-down between Mike and the UC Irvine School of Social Ecology, where he is a Senior Fellow.

This is the most concise interview to date on The Latino Century. Like the book, the interview leaves the reader with plenty of hope for the future.

“The more Latino we become, the more optimistic, trusting, hopeful and collaborative we are as an American people,” Mike tells UCI’s Mimi Ko Cruz. “So, while people are looking externally for policy solutions to what ails democracy, we need to start looking internally and recognize that the answers to our problems are literally within sight.”
