The Ventura City Council voted unanimously to dismiss City Attorney Andrew Heglund during a closed-session meeting on Saturday, April 13. His termination took effect immediately.
Heglund is under investigation by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office’s sexual crimes unit following an incident at a Chick-fil-A.
“On April 10, 2024, at approximately 1:36 p.m., officers were dispatched to 1321 Eastman Ave. in the city of Ventura to a report of indecent exposure,” according to the Ventura Police Department. “Upon arrival, officers interviewed witnesses and gathered information regarding the incident. Ultimately, due to conflict of interest, this case was referred to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation and follow-up."
Heglund was cited for a suspected misdemeanor violation, according to Sheriff's Capt. Dean Worthy. His attorney called it an "overreaction.”
Senior Assistant City Attorney Miles Hogan has been appointed as acting City Attorney.
