The City of Ventura has announced the selection of David Dickey as Chief of Police. Dickey, who has served as Assistant Chief since 2020, will assume the top job on May 16.
“I am deeply committed to Ventura’s safety and well-being, and I firmly believe that the strength of our police department lies in the dedication of our people,” he said in a statement. “As someone who calls Ventura home, I am passionate about fostering a culture of service, integrity, and accountability, ensuring equal treatment and responsiveness to all members of our community.”
Ventura’s police department includes 250 sworn officers. Its last chief, Darin Schindler, retired in December.
After joining the Ventura police force in 1997, Dickey moved steadily up the ranks. In addition to his 30 years of law enforcement experience, he holds a Master of Science in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego plus various executive-level certifications.
As Chief, Dickey will earn an annual salary of $280,277.
