A fascinating video popped up in our feed the other day. It focuses on the third largest city, by area, in the state. The city is only smaller than Los Angeles and San Diego. It is the most eponymously named city in California, California City.
The video dives into the details of the 1968 incorporation of the 203 square mile California City and the catalyst for that incorporation, a man by the name of Nathan Mendelson.
We felt it relevant for CityNews as the video crew spoke with California City’s first Vice Mayor and current Mayor Jennifer Wood. Mayor Wood opens an interesting can of worms in stating that the huge swath of vacant land is an asset. The available land gives California City a developmental flexibility going into the future, granted it is in the middle of the Mojave.
