For the past 18 years, Chris Freeland has served the people of West Covina. Now, he’s moving east to the City of Indian Wells. Freeland was hired Tuesday, April 30, as its next city manager. He takes over on May 13.
Freeland assumed the chief administrator position in West Covina in 2015 and left in March. He previously worked as a management analyst, community development commission director, head of community services, acting HR director, deputy city manager, and assistant city manager.
It was that rich experience in local government that won him over with Indian Wells Mayor Ted J. Mertens and the city council, which voted unanimously for Freeland’s appointment.
“We found a City Manager with a track record of innovative work in the community he served for more than 18 years,” said Mertens. “He is a respected public servant who will bring a tremendous amount of skill and transparency to the City Manager position.”
Freeland’s passion for local governance can be traced all the way back to his high school days.
