The Westminster City Council was expected to hire a new city manager last week. But on Wednesday, city leaders opted to pull the item from the agenda, delaying the search.
Former finance administrator Chu Thai was the City Council’s top choice for the job. But a dispute between Thai and his former employer, Monterey Park, quickly gained attention. Each party accuses the other of misusing public resources. Thai says the accusations against him were retaliatory and are untrue.
Whatever the case, Westminster acknowledges it has not completed a proper background check and must do so before it moves forward.
“In light of some of the controversy that’s arisen, it’s important that we complete that background check,” said City Attorney Dick Jones.
