In case you missed it, the A’s are temporarily relocating from Oakland to West Sacramento. They’ll spend three seasons at Sutter Health Park in the city’s Bridge District before their eventual move to Las Vegas.
It’s another painful loss for Oaktown. But for West Sacramento, it’s a moment of pride that has been decades in the making.
“The creative financing opportunities that the past city council has taken advantage of makes it affordable," Mayor Martha Guerrero told CBS News.
Economic development has already been on the rise in West Sacramento. With the A’s move, it’s about to go into hyperdrive.
“It’ll help really put some eyes on West Sacramento and the Bridge District and build some excitement about what this place can be," said West Sacramento City Manager Aaron Laurel.
Sacramento Kings Chairman Vivek Ranadivé believes it could be a great audition for a permanent team.
The A’s have called Oakland home for 56 years. In 2023, they announced plans to move to Las Vegas. It was another major blow for Oakland, which lost the Raiders to Vegas in 2020.
