Former Salinas City Manager Steve Carrigan has filed a lawsuit against the City of San Bernardino, alleging local officials got him fired from his job.
Carrigan was the top choice for San Bernardino’s city manager position last year. But according to Carrigan, who is white, the offer was rescinded because of his race. After the employment offer was leaked to the public, Salinas voted to fire Carrigan. He claims the leak was a deliberate attempt by San Bernardino officials who opposed his hiring.
Carrigan is seeking compensation equivalent to the remaining two years he would have spent with the City of Salinas (over $730,000), plus $1 million for the loss of future employment opportunities and $500,000 for damage to his reputation.
