An annual solar eclipse, known as a “ring of fire,” will grace the skies this Saturday, October 14. Tens of millions of people will watch the event in the western U.S. and Central and South America. Here in California, the best view will be from tiny Modoc county.
As SF Gate notes, “it’s the only California county where the celestial phenomenon — when the moon passes between the sun and Earth to create a ring of fire — will be fully visible. The San Francisco Bay Area is expected to see between 80% and 90% of the eclipse.”
Stargazers are expected to flood the county and its only incorporated city, Alturas, for the cosmic show. Alturas has already seen an increase in hotel bookings and accommodation requests.
