The City of Vallejo is located in Solano County and has a population of approximately 120,000. The City is a rapidly changing, highly diverse community located midway between the cities of Sacramento and San Francisco. The City of Vallejo is recruiting for two distinct and separate positions, an Assistant City Attorney I and a Deputy City Attorney II. The Assistant City Attorney I, who reports to the City Attorney, will act as staff to the Planning Commission, provide legal guidance and counsel to the City Council on economic development efforts. The successful candidate will have at least five years of responsible professional legal experience and a strong background with land use, environmental regulations, and economic development; knowledge of, and experience with, pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, code and regulations, including the California Environmental Quality Act and the Brown Act. A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school with current membership in the California State Bar is required.
The Deputy City Attorney II is primarily a litigation position, with some advisory responsibilities. The selected candidate will be a litigator, a generalist, a pragmatist, and a hard worker who is comfortable performing multiple roles in the City Attorney’s Office. He or she will step into an active caseload, providing litigation services to various City departments, divisions and officials. The new Deputy City Attorney will have at least five years of substantial litigation experience along with a law degree from an accredited college or university.
