Assistant County Administrative Officer / Human Resources Director

The County of Mariposa, with a population of 17,100 and a total area of 1,463 square miles is situated in the wonderfully rural and picturesque western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Mariposa County is north of the Fresno-Clovis area, southeast of Modesto and a 45-minute drive to the City of Merced. The County Government Center is located in the charming and historic Town of Mariposa. The County's eastern section is the central portion of Yosemite National Park.
The County seeks a highly capable public administrator to serve as the County’s Assistant County Administrative Officer and to manage the County’s Human Resources Division.
Appointed by the County Administrative Officer, the Assistant County Administrative Officer/Human Resources Director manages the County Human Resources Division operations, budget and staff including two full time direct reports. The Division’s Mission Statement is to provide innovative, practical human resource solutions that address business issues with integrity, responsiveness, and sensitivity to employees of Mariposa County and other customers.
Key duties include administration of labor and employee relations, conducting and administering the County’s recruitment and selection program, developing, administering, and conducting Countywide training programs, ensure County compliance with applicable labor, benefit, medical, and safety laws and regulations, provide oversight of the County's classification and compensation system and maintain personnel records.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, human resources, or a closely related field. A Master’s degree and HR certifications are preferred. In addition, qualified candidates will bring a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in public administration and/or human resources.
The County of Mariposa offers an excellent salary and benefits package including an approved annual salary for this position of $152,080, CalPERS 2% at 55 for Classic Members and 2% at 62 for PEPRA members, plus CalPERS medical plans. A flexible or hybrid work schedule for this position is offered.
