The Oakland Housing Authority (OHA) provides subsidized and affordable housing to nearly 16,500 families and is the largest landlord in the City of Oakland. OHA seeks an Assistant Director for the Capital Improvements Department (CID) to lead renovations (not new construction) of OHA’s managed and owned properties. This candidate will work closely with the Director of CID in a department of 78 employees, an approximate department budget of $17 million, and an annual capital improvement program for FY23 of $12 million. This position requires a background in construction and project management. Candidates also should be well versed in safety and environmental requirements and have leadership qualities to successfully manage a large construction crew of skilled laborers, inspectors, superintendents, and project managers. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, problem solver, critical thinker, and coordinator. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction and project management, strong organizational and technology skills, creative ideas to solve complex issues, and a focus on improving process efficiencies. This person will have operational leadership experience with larger construction companies, and/or managing construction crews of 50 plus construction laborers and other professionals.
