The City of Ventura’s Community Development Planning Division is looking for an Assistant Planner to join the team! We are seeking candidates who can immediately build rapport with the public, communicating their passion and interest in the community. This new team member will utilize their problem-solving skills to gather relevant information, solving practical problems that address citizen inquiries and concerns.
The Community Development Planning Division is responsible for approving development applications, creating regulatory programs/policies/ordinances, while engaging with the public and stakeholders in community development for the City. The Planning Division works collaboratively with applicants, developers, neighbors, and community partners to ensure a sustainable future for the City of Ventura.
Reporting to the Principal Planner, the Assistant Planner will work as a member of a fast-paced team of 11 Planning staff. The Assistant Planner is responsible for professional planning work involving land use planning, environmental analysis, historic preservation, design review, public policy and ordinance development, economic development, green technology in economic development, CDBG/HOME program implementation or related areas.

Qualifications
A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in City Planning, Architecture, Environmental Studies, Economics or closely related field, and depending on assignment, qualifying experience as described below, in the following areas: land use planning, economic development, environmental analysis, historic preservation, design review, general plan policy and ordinance development, green technology in economic development, or CDBG/HOME programs.
One year of responsible professional planning experience or project management experience required.
License: Possession of a valid class C driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Certificate: Possession of AICP certification is desirable.
